Leaving Craters of the Moon we headed west and north to Yellowstone National Park. As mentioned above, Yellowstone is a result of the volcanic activity from the travelling hot-spot in the Earth’s interior. Indeed, Yellowstone encompasses a huge caldera in which many of the famous volcanic features are found.

Several of the prominent features of Yellowstone National Park are easily reached on the extensive road system throughout the park. Sadly, there are often a large number of fools driving on these roads so one must be very careful!

We set up camp at Grant Village, just at the eastern edge of Yellowstone Lake.The Castle Geyser and accompanying alga pools in the Geyser Basin. Throughout the Geyser Basin and some other parts of the park you must be careful to walk on provided walkways -- the ground can break and you might find yourself falling into very hot water.he Yellowstone favourite -- Old Faithful.A view of the lower Geyser Basin in the distance across the river.No geology here -- just a herd of Bison!Mammoth Springs in the northern part of the Park is a huge travertine formation created by the cascade of mineral laden water.
