After proceeding through Natural Bridges and Glen Canyon, we travelled through some interesting geology around Caineville and then reached the Capitol Reef National Park. The Capitol Reef is part of the Waterpocket Fold. The rock is layered at a steep angle descending to the east. The ‘reef’ is the sharply eroded western edge of the fold. It displays some spectacular colours and geology.

Leaving Capitol Reef, we decided to race for Bryce Canyon National Park. We travelled on what has to be the most spectacular road for geologic scenery that exists. This is Utah State road 12 running south from Torrey to Boulder, Escalante, and Cannonville.
